Finances are a cause of stress for all of us at different times in our lives and for all kinds of different reasons. We know that Students face financial difficulties during their studies.

This area is here to provide helpful information and support to help you increase your financial literacy and access services that may be able to support you within the University and externally.

If you are in need of advice and guidance regarding SFE funding or you are experiencing hardship you can access our Student Advisors. They will help you access support within the University. The University does have hardship funds etc that you may be eligible for. Student Advisors will inform you if there are any funds available and your eligibility.

The Advisors are continuing to offer pastoral and academic support. They are continuing to produce written confirmation of a student’s enrolment status for the purpose of opening bank accounts, council tax, sponsorship etc. Accommodation enquires are also welcomed by the Student Advisors.

What are Credit Unions?

They are non-profit-making money cooperative whose members can borrow from pooled deposits at low interest rates. They will never lend you money if it will put you in more financial difficulty or if you may struggle to pay it back. You can't just get a loan from them, they make sure that you have the ability to pay it back first, and usually ask that you save with them for a while before you can make any requests for loans. They also offer advice and guidance about money management and debts.

Hoot, Wise with Money is a Bolton based Credit Union. https://www.wisewithmoney.org.uk/

To be a member of Hoot Credit Union you must be 16 years or over and either live, work, study or volunteer within the common bond area or be employed by one of our partner employers. Like Hoot we do not advocate getting loans you can not afford to pay back. We do however recommend making regular savings, even if just small amounts that can help when an emergency pops up, or when you want to spend a little more like for holidays for example.
